Long (3 year) story short, I had sworn off backpacking asking, "Why would anyone choose to be homeless* and choosing to lounge on the deck of the family cabin instead. But after a stroke in 2019, spending 3 months relearning to walk, a year in physical therapy, losing 83 pounds and losing the cabin to a wildfire I found myself looking for a place to enjoy the mountains and a physical challenge. I just completed my first backpacking trip in Yosemite. Cathedral Lakes down JMT, Half Dome, across the Panorama trail and down Pohono Trail. It was great but the 36 pound pack needed a diet too.
