Welcome to the first installment of The Cache! This bi-weekly article will focus on keeping you updated on what's happening within the ultralight and outdoor community. We'll primarily highlight new product releases, notable events, new brands, funny memes, entertaining videos, and generally anything we think is particularly interesting or notable. This week we've got new Hyperlite Packs, the closure of Possumdown, Outdoor Retailer, Ultralightsacks, and a new video by Jupiter. Enjoy!
 

New Hyperlite on the Horizon?

Hyperlite is releasing a new pack: The Junction! While they have been exceptionally cryptic about the features this pack will include, sightings at AT Trail Days (and a couple of leaked photos) reveal what appears to be an ultralight hybrid of their very popular Windrider and Southwest packs. So far we can only speculate, but it appears the Junction will come with the side pockets of the Southwest and the back mesh pocket of the Windrider. Wonderous.

The Place to Be: Summer Outdoor Retailer!

If you aren't familiar with Outdoor Retailer, it's the largest outdoor trade show in North America. Hosted in Denver (it moved from SLC last year amidst controversy surrounding public lands ), it attracts 20K+ people to a whirlwind of gear filled booths, giant displays, lots of free samples, panels and forums, wandering sales reps, hallway meetings, and very prompt 4:30pm happy hours. While only a couple brands on GGG actually have booths (booth space can cost an absurd amount of money), most brands (including ourselves) come simply to reconnect with friends/partners, talk a little shop, and hopefully stumble into a couple of previously unfamiliar brands. 

While only open to individuals in the outdoor industry, Outdoor Retailer kicks off on Tuesday, June 18th!

Possumdown Calls it Quits

After 25 years of making the best darn sleeping socks the world has ever seen, Possumdown is closing their doors for good. Citing family illness as the reason for the closure, their departure is certainly a blow to all of those whose feet have known the warmth and comfort of some truly fantastic possum fur socks. While I'm sure the possums won't mind, we are sad to see them close. Possumdown socks will continue to be sold on GGG until out of stock. Once gone... they're gone!

A New Brand to Note: Ultralitesacks!

As might be expected, we spend a great deal of time combing the internet for new brands and quirky products. One of our favorite spots to search? Etsy! While a great location for everything from jewelry and art to clothing and wedding supplies, Etsy is also home to a handful of DIY/MYOG outdoor makers. Ultralitesacks is a brand we just recently discovered, and we were immediately intrigued by their DCF compression sacks, ditty bags, and UL pouches. Luke (who runs of Ultralitesacks) is in the process of launching his own website, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of their products popped onto GGG here in the near future.
