Not as easy to use as I hoped

Bought this looking to get something more powerful than my binoculars. Unfortunately the small field of view and difficulty focusing limits the usefulness of.

Guilty pleasure

I've always carried small binoculars when backpacking. My current 8x22 Steiner's are great but this monocular is less than half the weight and size. At the 10 power setting the image is clear and fairly stable. At the 30 power setting it is difficult to hold such a short tube stable. You will also lose some light at the higher magnification. That being said I think I will prefer these over the binoculars for three reasons; 1. less than half the weight, 2. less than half the size, 3. over 3 times the magnification. I'm old, slow and not a thru hiker so time is not an issue and I often spend early mornings, late afternoons and breaks on the trail simply scoping out the surroundings.

Small but powerful

Traveling with this much easier than binoculars. Only time I’d prefer binoculars is in sweeping large areas. This was great for targeted sightings
