A great natural alternative

After years of backpacking with a certain well-known blue-colored synthetic pack towel that wasn't particularly lightweight and smelled after a while, I decided to buy this hemp and tercel hand towel. I'm a serious backpacker (13,000+ trail miles, a triple crowner), so I really get to know my gear. With increasing awareness of the oil and plastic industries' harmful effects to health (the planet's and our own), I'm also increasingly trying to switch away/back to natural materials (i.e. alpaca and merino for baselayers, titanium for water bottles, no plastic packaging for trail food). I care about the plastic microfibers synthetic gear adds to our environment (not to mention the pollution and carbon footprint of the manufacturing process). Hemp is also one of the most sustainable natural materials out there, with a comparatively small carbon footprint. So I took this hemp and tencel hand towel on my most recent backpacking trip and it performed beautifully—dried quickly, felt better and more absorptive than my old synthetic towel, and didn't smell after days of use. Other pros: its bright blue color makes it easy to spot (and therefore not accidentally leave behind), the printed design on one side allows you to designate that for one use, and the non-printed side for another (i.e. I used the printed side to dry my hands, and wipe condensation off tent walls and other gear; the non-printed side was for face and rest of the body), and the hanging loop made it easy both to hang the towel more securely off my pack while hiking, and from a branch while in camp. I will carry this towel on upcoming hikes as well as off-trail trips. The only con (not a major one for backpacking): it's not big enough to wrap around my head after washing my hair. If Lava Linens would make a towel large enough for that (i.e. between the sizes of the hand and bath towels), I'd gladly buy it.
