Shop small outdoor gear companies: Garage Grown Gear's store launches

Garage Grown Gear is launching its store in time for the holidays. Now you can shop innovative, high-performing and wildly cool products made by small outdoor gear companies all in the same location anytime day or night. “We offer people an alternative to the homogenized, compromised gear served up by big box brands that would rather pinch pennies than make the best gear,” said Amy Hatch, the company’s CEO and founder.

Amy Hatch - Head Shot Outdoors - Skida HatMany of the brands Garage Grown Gear features are made in the USA and take steps to minimize environmental impacts. All are founded by people who saw a need and created a product to meet it. “The companies featured in our store are hand-selected,” Hatch said. “It’s a curated collection.” Garage Grown Gear sells boats that roll up to the size of Nalgene water bottle, ultralight backpacks made from sailcloth in Maine, and stylish winter hats designed by a then-high school student.

Want healthy and delicious dehydrated meals in the backcountry? Garage Grown Gear discovered a company finally making them. Always dreamed of the perfect climbing pants? So did a small Montana brand, and they’re available in the store. More ideas include: custom branded leather gloves, insulated bottles with a magnetic lid, ice climbing tools for indoor gyms, and brew concentrates that let you make beer and soda in the backcountry. “We scout for today’s innovators and tomorrow’s icons,” Hatch said. “It’s our passion to connect you to these brands.” As a 29-year-old mother, Hatch knows what it’s like to put it all on the line for an idea. “We’re also garage grown,” she said. “I started with a laptop on a kitchen table.” Often small outdoor gear companies struggle to build a brand because of limited resources. Garage Grown Gear serves as a marketing hub for companies. "Garage Grown Gear helps us reach new customers we might not otherwise find,” said Stephen Kitto, CEO of Liquid Hardware. “It also helps independent brands like us have a stronger voice in the highly competitive outdoor industry."
