I've been using an alpaca beanie for several years which works well in temps of 25-45 in the mountains of GA/NC/TN. The things i prefer about the Red Spruce beanie are its more comfortable fit, as it just lightly holds onto my head, its barely there weight, and its ample warmth. Easy to stuff in a pack pocket when not in use. Dries super fast compared to alpaca. Also great to sleep in, as the looser fit is more comfortable than a tighter beanie when worn overnight. I started out with the Tundra Green 120gsm which works great in 20-45F weather for me, and then added the 60gsm weight for temps more in the 35-50F range.
