I don’t understand it’s intended use
tried to write a comprehensive review but the character limit is so low that i can’t submit it. (please fix that!!!!! 1500 characters is nothing when trying to convey the intricacies of a piece of gear you intend to venture out into the wilderness with!!!) here are the bullet points: i sleep outside or inside in sub freezing temps every night. this balaclava utterly roasts my head while providing no facial protection at all. the draw cord around the face opening barely reduces its size, rendering it a fairly useless $10 upgrade over the other model. what’s the point of having a balaclava rated down to 0f when your nose, cheeks and lips are what are really suffering in those temps? my experience is that my face actually feels colder than normal due to the fact that my head is boiling (and sometimes sweating) and the temp difference between face and top of head is highly noticeable. i am yet to find or hypothesize a situation where this balaclava is useful for my body. i will say that it is well manufactured, just poorly designed.
Stomach sleepers rejoice
i’ve always had issues with mummy style bags as a stomach sleeper, and this is most evident in the depths of winter. with this hood over a warm hat, i can move my head independent of the mummy bag shape and direct the moist air from my breath out. simple but well made, should be worth its weight in gold for a good night’s sleep.

Great hood for quilt sleepers
Really well made, well thought out hood that makes all the difference when the temperature drops.

Excellent lightweight down hood for backpacking
I got this after having a cold head sleeping in 30 degree weather with a quilt. This was a nice upgrade in warmth compared to just sleeping with a down puffy hood. It packed up light as well. A nice thing to have while backpacking in late fall or winter weather.

Like a Hug for Your Head
Very warm, fits just right. Underarm cords take some getting used to. Very impressed by the quality of the workmanship.
