Good but NOT MADE IN THE USA
i used my windrunner for the at and wales coast path and it performed well. they have lowered their prices a lot as i paid over $500 for mine. maybe they have owned up to the fact that they make them in mexico now so can’t charge the premium price of a made in the usa product anymore with a straight face!
Awesome pack
Best backpack I’ve ever used super comfortable for the load and gear I carry. Will definitely recommend this product to anyone.
The pack of my dreams
I was so happy to find this pack and have not been disappointed. There are so many packs on the market that it took me a couple of practice rounds before realizing I really just wanted a big waterproof bag with a rolltop. Previously I had a pack with tons of pockets and flaps but always ran into usability issues on the trail and at camp. This hyperlite pack is one big container that's super easy to access. I also love the mesh pockets on the outside for drying stuff and the hip belt + internal support are great. I'm not a huge gram counter so I'm unsure where this falls on the spectrum, but I haven't noticed a huge difference between this and my old gossamer gear (aside easier access and really just being a better fit for me).
Great compromise between weight and functionality
a driving theme today is weight reduction, and going "ultralight" is a premise that has overshadowed logic and real world experience in the field. many pack companies are now designing packs without hip belts for the sake of saving weight in the spirit of this philosophy. this makes sense in some applications, but lacks versatility and functionality for most hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. this pack breaches the gap between gram weenies and the osprey junk haulers. not only is this pack one of the lightest, its minimal frame and hip belt allow for heavy pack loads. i've personally used this for long unsupported trips into the bob marshal wilderness where resupply options are not available, as well as speed walks on the a.t. where my pack load was almost nonexistent. a huge advantage to this versatility is that you can use this pack in other disciplines such as rock climbing or pack rafting because you can carry burdensome weights with a lightweight system. this pack is also highly durable. i have bushwhacked miles of montana terrain with concerns that the netted pockets(which are designed for wet east coast conditions) would rip apart on snags and devils club. to my surprise, my pack blasted through it all and the fabric(white dcf) was unscathed. i imagine the black dcf is even more bomber, but it may be overkill if you're not beating it on bluffs and canyon walls. p.s. use a pack liner, water can seep through stitching of any fabric, even the touted waterproof dcf.
HMG Windrider 2400
this pack pretty much meets or exceeds all by pack needs. lightweight, waterproof, comfortable with 30 lbs. just the basic features, but all you need. would also recommend the hmg pods, great organization system and utilizes the pack’s volume perfectly.
