When the weather turns midday or you’re starting in the dark, you need a go-to layer to keep the chill out without overheating.
Katabatic made this shell intentionally simple. At less than 2 oz (size M), it pulls far above its weight, with premium Pertex® Quantum Air fabric that breathes during a sweaty pursuit without compromising wind resistance. Its textured yarn remains soft on the skin while also layering nicely in harsh conditions, and its DWR finish sheds light rain or snow. Elasticized hood and cuffs and a simple cinch closure on the bottom hem keep it snug when you’re working hard.
This ultralight, versatile windshell is designed for high-output days when breathability is just as crucial as wind resistance. Stuff it in a pocket as an emergency shell, wear it all day on a windy ridgeline scramble, or throw it on before a quick descent - the Crest Windshell goes anywhere you do.
Features:
- Designed to fit over baselayers and midlayers
- Adjustable, drop tail hem; extra length in back to ensure coverage
- Soft elasticized hood and cuffs
- Zipper chin guard
- Ultralight YKK front zipper
- DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish repels moisture

Windshell in the Weminuche
Bought this Crest Winshell specifically for a trip this September to the Weminuche Wilderness in Colorado. It was fantastic. Originally was skeptical because of the shells extreme light weight and more snug fit, but this shell is now the perfect missing clothes layer I did not know I needed in my kit. Became that layer I so liked going over a mountain pass, and the first thing I put on dropping the pack.

Great product
Good fit. Breaths well. Burns off rain at higher Mets. Used it often in 40s, drizzle, over 7000ft. Seemed to do its job well there. Good fits well enough. Nice over a senchi as an active base

Nice and light
Good wind shirt especially considering is weight is almost nothing and packs small. Combined with an alpha direct underneath and it is great warmth for the weight.

Saved me on its first use
I was hesitant to purchase a windshell at this price, but decided to go for it because of the protection Pertex Quantam Air offers. Last week I tossed it in my pack as a "just in case" protective layer from the 30% chance thunderstorm heading into the Wasatch Back range for my 20mi trail run. Sure enough, halfway into my run while I was along the highpoint of the route, cold rain came down fast and hard. I knew it wouldn't last too long, but I got cold quickly, so I threw on the shell. I was instantly glad I had it on me. The Katabatic shell is shockingly comfortable, breathable and light. I've used similarly light shells in the past but they don't have the features that come with the Katabatic. From the soft wrist cuffs, waist drawstring, and perfectly snug fit hood, I believe this is the best windshell on the market right now for active pursuits like trail running or fast hiking.
