The PCT bear hang method was made popular on the PCT. Hikers use a rod or stick to keep their food bag securely in the air. The rod acts as a stop against your carabiner when tied correctly.

Which size is best?
If you use a micro carabiner, the small will likely work for you. For all other carabiners, choose the large.

Bag toggle, hammock toggle
i bought this and was sent the dog bone version but ggg made it right and sent me the small round ones i ordered. i have used them for hanging my food bag pct style and they definitely work well. however my main reason for purchasing these was to use them for hanging my hammock using a becket hitch and using this rather than a stick. you could use a lightweight tent stake as well but these are lighter and cheaper. https://youtu.be/xa8xdm8lis8?si=n5a2ly8rartjh73w for becket hitch instructions

Never use a stick
Well they sent the big dog bone rather than this toggle. I’m not going to complain. The dog bone works great. I assume this toggle does too. Great product.
