My oldest son suddenly passed away Feb 11th 2017and I’m planning on hiking the AT next year in remembrance of him, was planning it this year but financially was able, hoping to retire so I can next year.

I had planned on doing the entire AT 3 years ago but about the time I was suppose to leave my wife was diagnosed with cancer. Changing our life forever. When she returns to health I plan on doing parts of the AT. To very one out there dreaming dont want for someday because someday may never come.

I’ve had this swirling desire inside to challenge myself, face forward, and do a thru hike for many years. I have good boots, but that’s it! This would set the ball in motion – plus I would document it all with tags for all brands involved. I would love to collaborate!

Our son hiked the AT in 2015 & we bought his gear & basically everything for him as a college graduation gift. Now I’d like to hike it before I turn 60 in a few years & winning this gear would definitely motivate me to just do it!! (Since my money went with the sons gear😝)

Smart idea to form a “cottage coalition” – I would love to have a place to see all the niche products offered by these companies. As time goes by, I find myself with more and more smaller company gear in my “kit”. Although… I suppose I’ve been doing that for years – it’s just that some of those smaller companies got really big ;)

My wife and 13 year old son did the AT last year and she and the other twin are doing the long Camino (Spain) this year. They can use new equipment. I did this for them.
