A+ quality right out of the box

First impressions mean a lot. They let you know if you need to lower or raise your expectations, but sometimes you can tell right away that you've hit a home run with a product right from the box opening. I've purchased many quilts in my time from many brands. Hammock Gear, Enlightened Equipment, Warbonnet. All very good quality products for both similar and different reasons. None have failed me, but also none of completely wowed me right out of the box like this Katabatic Flex 15 did. The feel of the fabric, the attention detail in the seams, snaps, connectors, zipper, elastics, collars (the footbox snap, collar and drawstring are a work of genius in how they all work together), the loft of the down, differential cut baffles, pad attachment system, color, everything. This thing is a beauty and would be on the show room floor if that were a thing. Sincerely can't wait to use this item this Fall.

Adaptable, lightweight, and warm when you need it to be

Just used this quilt for the first time on an April backpacking trip. It seemed like the perfect choice for a spring trip, when nighttime temperatures are still unpredictable (will it still be below freezing up in the mountains or warming up?). The temps ended up being on the colder side but this bag kept me as warm as my zero-degree down bag from another company (which was $800 when I bought it new a few years ago - so this quilt is a good deal). Despite what other reviews said about the cord/clipping system needing time to get used to, I thought it was super simple and effective. I ended up locking the clips toward the top of the bag to keep a draft from sneaking in around my shoulders but left the lower clips unlocked to allow more freedom around my hips, which actually kept me warmer than the locked position at the hips because it allowed the down to stay lofty instead of compressed around my hips. This bag is also a pound less than my other bag, which is great when you're carrying several days worth of supplies with you. This is going to be my new go-to bag for temps above 15 degrees, and because it's so lightweight it will make for a packable second bag when I'm backpacking in colder overnight temperatures. Very happy with this bag. Even my husband, who is an outdoor gear snob, was impressed by the amount of loft in the quilt.

      Flex15

As it turns out, I used the quilt this past weekend in southern Indiana. Friday, down to the low 30’s. Saturday night, in the high teens…. Brrrrr. I was well equipped with down pants, long johns, down booties, Neo Air, and my new Katabatic. Very nice, warm, with no issues at all. I’m new to the pad adjustment clips, so I’ll get better with use. Up next, the PCT in early April! ( still not sure what the black straps are used for?). Just what I was hoping for. Top quality, that does what it’s supposed to do!
