In Steve Peter's years of section hiking the Appalachian trail, he was constantly refining his gear to reduce pack weight. Before long, Steve learned how to sew so that he could customize gear to get it just right and at the lightest weight. Steve made himself a beanie and it was the best hat he ever wore! It kept warm when resting and adapted to not get too hot when moving.
