Day in, day out: this is the pack for the longest trails
Born from and for the most transformative journeys, the Unbound 40 is built to go above and beyond the rigors of thru-hiking.
There is simply no better way to measure the effectiveness of a pack design than to send it out on thru-hikes. Over 2,000+ miles and an average of five to six months, day in, day out, loaded and unloaded, jostled and dragged, and exposed to the elements, one of these long walks will tell you the truth. So, that’s what Hyperlite Mountain Gear went after, and the Unbound 40 is the honest-to-goodness result. Every carefully considered feature fought for its right to remain, leaving only the essentials required for an efficient, comfortable, adaptable, and dependable travel companion.
Thru-hiking is hard enough. Let the Unbound 40 carry some of the weight.

Solid pack!
I really enjoyed this pack on its inaugural trip! I am sad that pretty much no pack comes with water bottle storage on the straps but survived without a great way to get my water bottle out. I was pleasantly surprised with how immediately comfortable this pack felt with little adjustment needed once on. Not sure how it'll feel with full water carrying as I never had to do that this trip but have to imagine it'll still feel great!

Used only once but do believe it was a sound investment. Felt good wearing it pretty comfortable.
Excellent service and product. I will do business with this company again.
I LOVE this pack.
i’ve had at least 5-6 different packs over the years and this pack just makes so much sense. one of my many favorite things is the adjustable closures on the side pockets where you l keep your water bottles typically. most other packs that have a fixed piece of elastic cord sewn into the top so you have a hard time getting to your bottles while walking/hiking. this pack allows you to adjust the tension so the bottle(s) can lean forward and are much easier to load and unload while wearing the pack because the pockets aren’t so tight. on the other side where i have my really important stuff like water filter and **** kit(sounds gross being so close now that i say it haha) i can really tighten it down so there’s no way they are falling out.. the next thing is the front elastic pocket that has a break in it so you can get to things at the bottom easier and even use the break as another pocket. i keep gloves and other small things there. it’s hard to explain so watch a video on it. the bottom pocket is neat but as of right now i don’t use it for anything other than a trash stash. 40 liters is perfect if you have your gear dialed in fairly well. i went out in 20°f weather and my pack felt great.
