(Editor’s note: welcome to another installment in our From the Founder series. Today, we welcome Marek Bowers, the force behind Rawlogy, a small brand making a name for itself among thru-hikers and backpackers with its lightweight cork massage balls. We hope this article helps you tailor self-care on trail to your specific needs!)

The number one question we get at Rawlogy is “What size ball do I need?” And we always answer that question with another question :) “What are your pain points?” In other words, where is the pain, tension, or soreness that you’re trying to treat? You’ll want to pick the ball that best matches the size of that area. Here’s a handy guide to help you find the best size for YOUR pain areas!

First, we have the ALL-NEW Rawlogy Micro at a mere ¾”! Tiny in size but huge in relief, the Micro relaxes the smallest muscles of the body (the ones that never seem to get enough TLC). Use it to massage the soreness and tension out of your fingers, hands, wrists, feet, and jaw—especially if you suffer from repetitive stress injuries like Carpal Tunnel or TMJ. If you practice reflexology, it’s a handy addition to your therapy toolkit. And weighing in at just 1 gram per ball, it’s the perfect trail, crag, travel, AND desk companion.

Next, we have the 1.9” Mini, which is a little bigger than a golf ball and thru-hiker gold. The Mini is what put Rawlogy on the map for long-distance hikers and backpackers because it’s the best DIY foot massage in the business. You can roll out a sore heel, arch, and forefoot, plus it’s great for Plantar Fasciitis relief. The Mini is also useful for smaller muscles like your calves, neck, and forearms. Although thru-hiker calves are rarely small ;-)

Lastly, the 2.5" Classic is about the size of a tennis ball. It’s our OG ball; the one we created for maximum massage versatility (which sounds super cool—maybe we should trademark that). This is the size we take backpacking since it can be used from head to toe. But it’s particularly effective for massaging larger muscles like your shoulders, back, chest, hips, quads, and glutes (aka butt).

We hope this Rawlogy size guide has been helpful to you, and we’re grateful that you took a few minutes out of your busy day to read it. Remember, we’re here to support you and your balls. Regardless of the size of your balls, we want you to be delighted by them.
