Ben Bogler has always loved to make things with his hands - think LEGOS, plastic model cars, wooden ship models as a kid. Fast forward to an adult with two degrees in Mechanical Engineering and it's a very regular thing for Ben to modify or make his own gear for biking, backpacking, and literally just about anything around his house or work. After buying a generic backpacking trowel and being disappointed in the design, Ben Bogler turned to designing his own.
In true engineer fashion, Ben designed, tested, redesigned, created countless spreadsheets, stress tested, and prototyped until he had a design that he was happy with. The final design is Ben’s attempt at the "perfect balance" of all the attributes: size, strength, weight, cost, durability, features, and as lightweight as possible without sacrificing durability or effectiveness.
Ben believes in small flexible manufacturing, ‘Made in USA’, and being efficient with resources. By doing all of the manufacturing himself, in his home shop - from bringing in the raw materials all the way to shipping out the finished product - Ben saves all of the energy and packaging of intermittent steps. Ben is adamant that BoglerCo products will always be handmade from start to finish under one roof. Conservation of nature and the environment are important to Ben, so the trowels are all natural aluminum finish to avoid any processing involving harsh chemicals or dyes. Luckily there are fun color choices for the ABS plastic "handle" to give it some flare!
